About Sorrento Portsea RSL

Sorrento Portsea RSL subbranch was formed in 1920 by local servicemen who served in WW1 (1914-1918). The first Anzac day service was held by the subbranch in that year at the newly erected cenotaph on the Sorrento foreshore, beside Port Phillip Bay. Sorrento Portsea RSL subbranch is therefore one of the oldest subbranches in Victoria. Since its inauguration it has served the local community well. Every year on Anzac and Remembrance Days club volunteers conduct commemorative services to honour those who have served in our armed services in all conflicts from WW1 and WW2 to today's conflict in Afghanistan. Sorrento Portsea subbranch went on to win 4 consecutive annual awards for having the largest percentage increase in membership in our category in Victoria. We are now one of the most successful medium sized subbranches in Victoria.
