About Burrum And District Heritage Society Inc.

The Burrum Museum chronicles the mining history of the Burrum District which began with the discovery of coal in 1863.This signaled the beginning of rapid development in the Burrum District and led to the development of the towns of Howard, Torbanlea, Burrum Heads and Toogoom. The Burrum Coalfields played a major role in the early development of the entire region, providing impetus for the extension of the railway north from Brisbane. The Museum came into being in 2006, initially with the main building displays.
